Uruguay Releases Postage Stamp On Rabindranath Tagore



 

Uruguay post released a postage stamp to mark 150 years of the birth of Indian poet Rabindranath Tagore

The launch event was held in the Treaty Room of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with the presence of Vice President, Danilo Astori, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Luis Almagro, the Ambassador of India, Viswanathan Rengaraj of Mail Uruguayan President, Jose Luis Juarez and Director Julio Cesar Sitveira.

They were accompanied by members of the diplomatic corps, ambassadors, philatelists and representatives of the media.

The launch of the commemorative postage stamp, which aims to strengthen commercial ties, political and cultural cooperation between the two countries, was held as a prelude to the official visit of Vice President Danilo Astori, which began on February 18 to the Republic of India.

President Jose Luis Juarez, during the  launch said Uruguayan Postal Department was honored to release postage stamp on the occasion of one hundred and fifty years of birth of Rabindranath Tagore.

He noted that the postage stamp will be part of the country's philatelic heritage and also help strengthen cultural and economic ties between India and Uruguay, countries differ in important ways even as population and territory, "integrated common causes such as humanists and pacifists”

On the other hand, stressed that Uruguay is the first country in Latin America to recognize and honor the Indian poet with the issuance of a postage stamp.

He reiterated that it will strengthen the bonds of friendship between both countries.
