La Martiniere School (Featured On Indian Stamp) has one of the most distinguished histories of any school in Kolkata. La Martiniere School was Founded in 1836.
La Martiniere school was found by Claude Martin depicted on the stamp. Claude Martin was brought up as a Roman Catholic, a fact he was to refer to obliquely in his will , and was intended for the silk trade but his destiny ruled other wise.
A bad silk harvest led to severe unemployment in Lyon and the restless soul of Martin sought another career. In September 1751 he signed on as a common soldier at the Lyon office of the Compagnie des India Company. His half-brother Louis, who had signed on with him was persuaded by his mother to get the enlistment cancelled but Claude was firm that he would seek his fortune in another company. He left for L’Orient in Brittany and sailed for India abroad the”Machault” on 9th December 1751 arriving at Pondicherry, on 20th July 1752. Martin would never leave India again.
Claude Martin depicted on the stamp, was a man of vision and he left generous endowments to start schools in Lucknow, Calcutta and in Lyon, in his native land of France. La Martiniere Schools, Calcutta, were the result of his desire to start an educational institution for the “public good of the town of Calcutta”.
It took 30 years to dispose off the litigation arising out of Claude Martin’s will. Finally, as a result of a supreme court decision, La Martiniere Schools opened in Calcutta, on 1st March, 1836.
To mark the 150yrs of its establishment India Post department has released the stamp to pay rich tribute to the school

That looks so cool. I haven't seen one for diagnostic medical sonography schools, though.
