Today is the day Savitri Bai Phule Passed away in 1897.Savitribai Phule (depicted On Stamp Of India Released In 1998) is synonymous among the teaching community in India as the “ first female teacher of the first women's school in India”.Today’s Stamp for the day is dedicated to Savitribai Phule
SavitriBai Phule was born in Naigaon Thaluka of Khandala Dist In Satara on 3rd Jan.1831.Her Father's name was Khandoji Nevse and mother Laxmi.
In 1840 she tied nuptial knots with Jotirao Phule and started her education in 1841.She passed with flying colors the third and fourth year examination from Normal school.
During 1847 Started school with Sagunabai in Maharwada .Country's first school for girls was started at Bhide's wada in Pune and Savitribai was nominated as the first head mistress of the school.
On 1st of Jan.1848, A School for adults was started at UsmanSheikh's wada in Pune. Left home with Jotirao to educating Shudra and ati Shudra communities .During 1852,Phule family was honoured by British government for their works in the field of education and Savtribai was declared as the best teacher.
Savitribai Phule was a poet as well.In 1854 she published "Kavya Phule"-the first collection of poems.A night school for agriculturist and laborers was started in 1855.She Published Lectures of Jyotiba' in 1856,She started a orphanage in 1863 for the deprived.When untouchability was at peak she opened usage of well to the untouchables during 1868.
When Plaque stuck in 1897,She worked hard for the victims of plague, where she organized camps for poor children. It is said that she used to feed two thousand children every day during the epidemic. By a strange irony, she herself was struck by the disease while nursing a sick child and died on 10 March 1897.
