Stamps On Turtles From Marshall Islands

         Marshall Islands has over 2,000 small, low-lying coral islands and islets clustered in 29 atolls and 5 table reefs.(See the geographical tag for the stamp) .Marshall Islands is home for many species of turtles.Marshall Islands released a set of stamps on Turtles recently depicting endangered turtles of Marshall Islands.

The Green Turtle (Depicted On 1c Stamp) is brown in color and is named for its greenish colored fat. Algae, the principal staple in its diet, gives the fat its color.

The Loggerhead Turtle (Depicted On 2c Stamp) can displace its center of gravity at will. Its legs are flattened laterally and serve as powerful swimming paddles.

The Leatherback Turtle (Depicted On 5c Stamp) is the largest of all turtles. Unlike other marine turtles, it has a smooth sheet of skin covering its back in place of a shell.

The smallest marine turtle is the Hawksbill Turtle (Depicted On $10 Stamp), found in the warm waters of the tropics. Its shell is covered with horny plates that overlap like shingles.

Human fishing practices threaten E. imbricata populations with extinction. The World Conservation Union. classifies the Hawksbill as critically endangered
