Arya Samaj Stamps-The Day Arya Samaj Was Founded

Today was the day  Hindu reform movement “Arya Samaj” was founded by Swami Dayananda on 10 April 1875.

Swami Dayanand was one of the most famous saints of India and Hindu religious scholar, reformer and Founded the Arya Samaj, a Hindu reform movement a society which first and foremost strives to spread truth and dispel untruth. Denouncing the idolization and ritualistic worship he saw widespread in Hinduism at the time, he worked towards reviving Vedic principles.

The political, economic and social conditions prevailing during the 19th century presented a sorry picture of a society which appeared to be beyond redemption.  Centuries of foreign domination had reduced the honor of Indian society to nothingness. Illiteracy prevailed, ignorance abounded, superstitions were rampant, knowledge was totally eclipsed, the essence of Dharma was lost, practice of irrational rituals and blind faith was dominant, social evils were widespread and cultural values were eroded.

The Arya Samaj which he founded became the guiding light the the people who had lost their way in total ignorance. Maharishi Dayanand devoted his life for the revival of the Vedas, for the removal of the social evils, bad customs and blind belief which had no validity in Vedas.

Arya Samaj means an assembly of virtuous, noble people who can unitedly think and strive to create a better society. The word Arya means a noble human being—one who is thoughtful and charitable, who thinks good thoughts and does good actions—he or she is an Arya. "Krinvanto Vishvam Aryam", Make the whole world noble became his motto.

Dayananda Saraswathi was the first to give the call for “Swarajya - India for Indians"-in 1876. Others who were influenced by and followed him included Madam Cama, Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, Lala Hardyal, Madan Lal Dhingra, Bhagat Singh, Swami Shraddhanand, andLala Lajpat Rai. One of his most influential works is the book Satyarth Prakash, which contributed to the Indian independence movement
