Babu Jagjivan Ram was born on 5 April 1908 in Chandwa near Arrah, Bihar. Babu Jagjivan Ram's life revolved around the mobilisation of downtrodden and dalits in the freedom struggle.

Babu Jagjivan Ram played a prominent role in building up free India. These included multi-faceted economic programs, a revolution in the social set up of India. Jagjivan Ram was closely associated with Indian National Congress and served as a Cabinet Minister in the cabinets of Nehru and Indira Gandhi.
