Stamp On Rabindranath Tagore Released By Sri Lanka Post

The Sri Lankan Postal Services secretary Hemasiri Fernando released a stamp and first day cover to mark the occasion.


Stamp Of Wilmot A Perera Who Invited Rabindranath Tagore To Sri Lanka


Rabindranath Tagore visited Sri Lanka thrice in 1922, 1928 and 1934 .On May 20th 1934 Rabindranath Tagore laid the foundation of Sri Palee campus at Horana on invitation from Mr. Wilmot A. Perera, a veteran politician and well-known philanthropist.

The founder of Sripalee College was a planter - Mr. Wilmot A. Perera. Wilmot A Perera’s father was Abraham Perera who also attained fame as the King of Rubber in Raigam and Pasdun Counties and was the richest person in the area.

Sri Palee” was named by Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. Mr. Sirimanna Fonseka was the first principal  Mr. and Mrs. Wilmot Perera also took part in teaching the students in the school.

Sri Palee maintained everlasting relationship with Indian  personalities like Pundit Jawaharlal Nerhu, Chinthamani Deshmuck, Vijayalakshmi Pandit, Sarojini K Naidu, S.Radhakrishnan .Sri Palee got Indian cultural troupes and same time Sri Palee sent some Sri Lankan dancing teams to India .
