Ho Chi Minh was a well known Vietnamese Marxist revolutionary leader who served as the prime minister (1945-1955) and president (1945-1969) of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam .  Ho Chi Minh played a vital role in formation of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam and led from the front the Viet Cong during the Vietnam War until his death.

Ho Chi Minh was the leader of  the Viet Minh independence movement from 1941 onwards.Ho Chi Minh established the communist-governed Democratic Republic of Vietnam in 1945 and defeated the French Union in 1954 .  Ho Chi Minh lost political power in 1955. Ho Chi Minh  was replaced as Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.  Ho Chi Ming carved himself as a highly admired leader of North Vietnam during his Presidency—until his death. The capital of South Vietnam, Saigon, was named Ho Chi Minh City in his honor.
