Church of the Assumption of Our Lady in the Cistercian Monastery in Plasy has an unique early Baroque instrument, an organ with 29 registers . Baroque music describes a style of Western Classical music approximately which was in existence between 1600 and 1750. Baroque music forms a major portion of the classical music canon, being widely studied, performed, and listened to. Baroque era saw many musicians like Johann Sebastian Bach, George Frideric Handel, Alessandro Scarlatti, Antonio Vivaldi, Georg Philipp Telemann, Jean-Baptiste Lully, Arcangelo Corelli, Claudio Monteverdi, Jean-Philippe Rameau and Henry Purcell. Plasy Monastery was founded in 1144 by Prince Vladislav II and at the beginning of the 15th century it was burnt down by the Hussites. Between 1661 - 1785 it was greatly baroque rebuilt according to plans by J.B. Mathey, J.B. Santini, K.I. Dientzenhofer. The church organ was built in 1688 by leading Czech organ builder Abraham Stark from Loket, it had 29 registers and is among the largest organs in the Czech Republic. The Church was restored in 18th century with significant change of the overall shape of the instrument. The next partial restoration came in the early 20th century. The organ was again restored between 2004 and 2006. | ||||||
