Initially the work of the Mir Castle was in Gothic Style, but came to an abrupt end for unknown reason. Building was completed by the beginning of the 17th century with Renaissance features added like Italian-style garden and  ponds. The Mir Castle was passed on to the Radzivill family in 1569. The architectural work was  supervised by the Italian architect Gian Maria Bernardoni.

During the reconstruction work of Mir castle during 1655 and 1706  Baroque features were added. The castle was badly damaged during the Napoleonic period, in 1794 and again in 1812, and it was under ruins until the late 19th century. The complex was later purchased by the Duke of Svyatopolk-Mirsky.

On purchase Duke of Svyatopolk-Mirsky started laying out a landscape park with a lake. A new palace  and  structures like chapel, watchman's house, were erected within the grounds. The old castle survived as a romantic ruin. During World War II it served as a prison camp and a ghetto.
