INDIPEX2011 Release Of First Women Pilots and Airplanes By Cuba

During INDIPEX 2011, The postal authorities of Cuba celebrated their participation in international stamp exhibition by releasing a set of 6 stamps and a miniature sheet on the First Women Pilots and the airplanes they flew .

The Miniature Sheet portrays the stamp Of First Cuban lady to fly Berta Moraleda .

Berta Moraleda And The Airplane Curtiss Robin

Berta Moraleda was the first women aviator from Cuba .The plane featured on the stamp is The Curtiss Robin which was introduced in 1928.Curtiss Robin was a high-wing monoplane with a 90 Horse Power built by Curtiss-Robertson Airplane Manufacturing Company.

Matilde E. Moisant and Airplane Bleriot

Matilde Moisant  was a well known American pioneer aviator. Maltilde Moisant was the second woman in the United States to get a pilot's license.The stamp features Bleriot Flight which used to be Single-seat, single-engine monoplane.

Ruth Elder and Airplane “American Girl”

Ruth Elder was an American Pioneer Aviator who tried to emulate Charles Lindbergh's feat of covering 5800 kilometers  in single seat single engine monoplane.

Ruth Elder Piloted a small monoplane, which she called  "American Girl” along with Captain George Haldeman . She was forced to ditch her plane in the waters along the north coast the island of Terceira due to technical problems and aircraft caught fire.

Ruth Rowland Nichols and Airplane “Lockheed Vega”

Ruth Rowland Nichols  was an American Aviator who is the only woman yet to hold simultaneous world records for speed, altitude, and distance for a female pilot .

Ruth Rowland Nichols set a new world altitude record of 19,928 feet for diesel-powered aircraft at Floyd Bennett Field, NY while flying in a Lockheed Vega depicted on the stamp

Evelyn "Bobbi" Trout And The Airplane “Golden Eagle”

Evelyn “Bobbi” Trout was the first Woman Aviator to set the first non-refueling endurance record for women . After getting her license, Evelyn “Bobbi” Trout flew a Golden Eagle at the Metropolitan Airport in Los Angeles on December 14, 1928

Jacqueline Cochran and Airplane “Seversky Executive”

Jacqueline Cochran was considered as the most gifted racing pilots of her generation . Jacqueline Cochran became the first woman pilot to "go supersonic." The stamp features Seversky Executive aircraft she flew.

Amelia Earhart And The Airplane “Lockheed Electra”

Amelia Earhart was the First woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean and setting many aviation records .While making an attempt to create one more record to make a circumnavigational flight using Lockheed Electra.She disappeared over the central Pacific Ocean near Howland Island
