The Grand Place symbolizes the glorious past of Belgium and Brussels in particular, but also what it could be tomorrow . The Grand Place is both a tourist attraction and a place of political Importance. Political, because it symbolizes the development of Democracy in Brussels and the Netherlands .

The Grand-Place, and by extension, Brussels, have always attracted writers and thinkers in the foreground. In the 19th century, Brussels was certainly been the refuge of writers and controversial philosophers . Baudelaire lived here, as well as Victor Hugo, Karl Marx, Verlaine and Rimbaud .

The Grand-Place is of course a tourist attraction. This is one of the most beautiful squares in Europe.Today, the Grand-Place is often the scene for all sorts of events. In general, musical events, such as the Jazz Marathon or Summer-festival . But there is also the Flower Carpet , which is held every two years, and the Beer Festival .
