| India Post in the year 1953 released total of 5 stamps . India celebrated the centenary of Indian Railways and Telegraph Centenary. A Set of Two stamps was released to mark Telegraph Centenary while one stamp was released to mark Railway centenary. Landmark event of the year was the successful Mount Everest expedition by the pair of the New Zealander Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay, a Nepali Sherpa climber. They reached the summit at 11:30 a.m. local time on 29 May 1953 via the South Col Route. India Celebrated the event with the release of two stamps on “Conquest Of the Everest” |
