Shivaji Bhosle with the  Common name Of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj (Depicted On Indian Stamp) was a Maratha king from the Bhosle dynasty who founded the Maratha empire.

Chatrapathi Shivaji was born in the hill-fort of Shivneri near the city of Junnar. While Jijabai was pregnant, she had prayed to the local deity "Shivai" for blessings for her expected child. Shivaji was named after this local deity

 

Shivaji led a resistance to free the Marathas from Sultanate of Bijapur, and establish the rule of the Hindus .He created an independent Maratha kingdom with Raigad as its capital,and fought against the Mughals to defend his kingdom successfully.He was crowned as Chhatrapati of the Maratha Kingdom in 1674

Lord Sri Chaitanya MAhaprabhu (Depicted in Indian Stamp) was born in Sridhama Mayapura , Navadvipa in Bengal, on the Phalguni purnima of the year 1486. Born as the son of a learned brahmana, Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu was known as Nimai Pandit  in his youth due to his unrivalled mastery of the Sanskrit Language and the Vedic literature. There was opposition to the movement of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu

Vijay Merchant was born in Mumbai, then Bombay, into a wealthy family in 1911. He was an "outstanding college cricketer" who captained Sydenham College, Bombay while studying there.Merchant's Test career spanned 18 years but during that time he played only ten Test matches. Merchant went out to score 154 in his last Test match against England in Delhi, which was also his highest Test score. All ten matches of Merchant's Test career were against England.
 
Dinkar Balwant Deodhar Featured on Indian Stamp (14 January 1892 - 24 August 1993) was an Indian cricketer, who played in first class cricket matches during 1911 - 1948.Deodhar was born in Poona (now Pune). He was an aggressive right-hand batsman and also a bowler known for his legbreaks. He captained the Maharashtra team in Ranji Trophy regional matches during 1939 - '41.Deodhar trophy is named after him
 
Cottari Kanakaiya Nayudu  (31 October 1895 - 14 November 1967) was an Indian cricketer who served as India's first Test captain. He was born in Nagpur and died in Indore.A solid batsman, Nayudu was known for his ability as a hard hitter of the ball. He was the first cricketer to be honoured with the Padma Bhushan.
 
Mulvantrai Himmatlal Mankad   (12 April 1917 - 21 August 1978), better known as Vinoo Mankad, was an Indian cricketer. An effective batsman and slow left arm orthodox bowler, he played in 44 Tests for India, and made 2109 runs at an average of 31.47 including five Test centuries with a top score of 231. He also took 162 wickets at the average of 32.32, including eight five-wicket hauls. He is one of the three cricketers to have batted in every position, from the first to the last, during his Test career.

Stamp Of Indian Revolutionary Vasudeo Balwant Phadke



On This Day Of Feb 17th 1883,Passed away an Indian revolutionary who inspired Bankim Chandra Chatterjee to write “Anand Math”.Today’s Stamp for the day is dedicated to him.
Vasudeo Balvant Phadke(Depicted On Indian Stamp of 1984)has been called the father of the armed struggle for India's freedom and it is said that it was he who inspired Bankim Chadra Chatterjee to write the patriotic novel "Anand Math". This pioneer revolutionary who died at Aden, about 100 years ago, was a valiant fighter, true to the tradition of the Peshwas ad the Marathas.

Stamps On Global Warming







 

It Was This Day In Feb 2005 The Kyoto accord, with the intent of curbing the air pollution blamed for global warming came into affect.

Today’s Stamp for the day features the stamps released to make people realize the ill effects of the global warming.Featured are  Stamps from Israel which was selected the best design for stamp on global Warming

The Kyoto accord requires countries to cut emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases.

Some 141 countries, accounting for 55% of greenhouse gas emissions, have ratified the treaty, which pledges to cut these emissions by 5.2% by 2012.
