The First Set of Stamps On Independent India was released on 21st November.1947
The First Stamp (1 1/2 Annas) Issued for domestic use in Independent India features the Lion Capital Of Ashoka. The Lion capital of Ashoka is a sculpture of four "Indian lions" standing back to back. It was originally placed atop the Aśoka pillar at Sarnath, now in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India by Emperor Ashoka circa 250 BC. The pillar, sometimes called the Aśoka Column is still in its original location, but the Lion Capital is now in the Sarnath Museum. This Lion Capital of Ashoka from Sarnath has been adopted as the National Emblem of India and the wheel "Ashoka Chakra" from its base was placed onto the center of the National Flag of India.
The Second Stamp Of India features “The National Flag of India”.Indian National Flag is a horizontal rectangular tricolor of deep saffron, white and green; with the Ashoka Chakra, a 24-spoke wheel, in blue at its center. The flag is based on the Swaraj flag, a flag of the Indian National Congress designed by Pingali Venkayya( See the Stamp of Pingali Venkayya ).
Third Stamp Of India features “Doublas DC-4”.The Douglas DC-4 was a four-engined propeller-driven airliner developed by the Douglas Aircraft Company. It served during World War II, in the Berlin Airlift and into the 1960s in a military role. From 1945, many civil airlines operated it worldwide. This stamp was meant for foreign airmail.
