Stamp On Namboodiripad E.M.S

 

 

Today is the day First Chief Minister Of Kerala E.M.S Namboodiripad Passed Away In The Year 1998.Today’s stamp for the day is dedicated to him.

 

E.M.S Namboodiripad was born on 13th of June 1909.He was the son of Parameswaran Namboodiripad, at Elamkulam, in Perinthalmanna.

E.M.S. Namboodiripad started his political career as a Congress worker in Kerala during Indian Freedom Struggle Movement.Namboodiripad later showed Interest in Marxism. Namboodiripad was among the founding members of the Communist Party in Kerala and created history in the 1957 elections by leading it to power in the state. The first popular ministry of Kerala headed by Shri EMS Namboodiripad, leader of the Communist Party, was sworn in on 5 th April 1957

As Chief Minister of Kerala, he started many reforms which directly touched the downtrodden. The reforms like Land legislation brought solace to millions of people. E.M.S Namboodiripad was also Chief Minister of Kerala during 1967 - 69.E.M.S Namboodiripad inspired many with his writing and he used to contribute earnings from his royalty to the party development funds.

Stamp On Lala Har Dayal-Founder Ghadar Party

 

 

Today was the day in 1939,Lala Har Dayal Indian Revolutionary Leader and founder of the Ghadar Party Passed Away.Through stamp for the day,let us pay rich tributes to him.

 

Lala Har Dayal was born in Delhi On October 4th,1884.Lala Har Dayal was the sixth of seven children of Bhoti and Gauri Dayal Mathur Couple.

During his childhood he was influenced by Arya Samaj. Lala Har Dayal associated with Shyamji Krishnavarma, Vinayak Damodar Savarkar and Bhikaiji Cama. Lala Har Dayal also drew inspiration from Giuseppe Mazzini, Karl Marx and Mikhail Bakunin. He was an atheist, a revolutionary and a Buddhist.

Lal Har Dayal completed his schooling at the Cambridge Mission School and received his bachelor's degree in Sanskrit from St. Stephen's College, Delhi, India .He completed his master's degree alin Sanskrit from Punjab University.

In 1905, Lala Har Dayal secured scholarships to Study Sanskrit at Oxford University. Because of his anarchist ideas,he was put under surveillance by the police. Later that year, he gave up his Oxford scholarships and returned to India to live a life of austerity. It was during this period  he got acquainted with the anarchist Guy Aldred, who was put on trial for printing The Indian Sociologist.

He moved to Paris in 1909 and became editor of the Vande Mataram.He moved to the United States in 1911, where he became involved in industrial unionism. He had served as secretary of the San Francisco branch of the Industrial Workers of the World alongside the National Bolshevik, Fritz Wolffheim.

Basanta Kumar Biswas's attempt on the life of the Indian Viceroy, Lord Hardinge, on December 23,1912 had a major impact upon him.Lala Har Dayal started the Gadar Party in the U.S. and published a journal Ghadar in six languages from USA. Millions of copies of the journal were distributed in India and to Indians around the world. Copies of the journal were concealed in parcels of foreign cloth sent to Delhi.

In April 1914, he was arrested by the United States government for spreading anarchist literature and fled to Berlin, Germany. He subsequently lived for a decade in Sweden. He received his PhD in 1930 from the University of London. In 1932, he published Hints of Self Culture and embarked on a lecture circuit covering Europe, India, and the United States.

Lala Har Dayal died in Philadelphia in On March 18th.1939.

Request To Release 98 Indian Personality Stamps Pending Before Philatelic Advisory Committee

As Per The Reports filed By Press Information Bureau,Shri Sachin Pilot, the Minister of State in the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology in response to a question in Indian Parliament gave the following facts about Stamp releases about personalities

 

After Independence of India, since August, 1948 to February, 2011 total 815 Commemorative Postage Stamps on prominent personalities/dignitaries have been issued.

Applications containing proposal for release of stamp in the name of various personalities received are placed before Philately Advisory Committee (PAC) for consideration. A list of  ninety eight personalities is awaiting consideration of the Philatelic Committee. Decisions will likely be taken after the recommendation of the PAC at its next meeting.

The Gandhi stamps which was supposed to be issued to celebrate his 80th Birthday on 2nd October was released later for 1st Anniversary of India's independence. The set of Gandhi stamps were released 6 months after Gandhi's death.

These set of 4 stamps are the only Gandhi stamps to contain descriptive text both in Devanagiri (Hindi) and Arabic (Urdu) script.

Stamp Of D V Gundappa-Noted Kannada Writer

Dr. D.V.Gundappa ( Devanahalli Venkataramanaiah Gundappa ) popularly known as DVG, was a prominent Kannada writer and a philosopher.He was born this Day in the year 1887

 

Dr.V.Gundappa was born on March 17th 1887 in Mulabagilu In Kolar (see geographical tag for the stamp) .DVG completed his primary school education in Kannada in the year 1898. He also attained basic education in English apart from learning Sanskrit on his own interest. Later he continued his education in Mysore from the Maharaja high school. Even though DVG did not pass matriculation exam his essays were selected as chapters for Graduation text books and PhD thesis

Dr.D.V.Gundappa is renowned for Manku Thimmana Kagga, a collection of poetic verses.Mankuthimmana Kagga is one of the most famous and popular major literary works in Kannada and was published in 1943. The title of this work can be translated as "Song of Mankutimma". Kagga is a beautiful and profound collection of 945 poems. Each poem is of four lines. Some of the poems are in old Kannada style (halegannada). Kagga poems are profound, and poetic. Most of these can be sung

Dr. DVG was awarded Padmabhushan by the Government of India in 1974. The State of Karnataka under Chief Minister Sri Veerandra Patil honored him for his services to Kannada Literature in 1970.
