Pineapple is a very popular fruit of papua new guinea . Most of the farmers in Papua New Guinea grow them in their gardens . Pineapple has found its popularity in restaurants and at tribal feasts all over Papua New Guinea . Tribals of Papua New Guinea have their own way of calling it . The Kitava Islanders of Papua New Guinea call it “Painapa” . The thorny specie is referred to as “Painapa kagonigouni” while the Hawaiian (thornless Specie) as “Painapa Kaigadobu”. The pineapple has botanical name as “Ananas comosus”. Native to South America, it was named for its resemblance to a pine cone .  Christopher Columbus is credited with discovering the pineapple on the island of Guadeloupe in 1493,although the fruit had long been grown in South America . Columbus called it as piña de Indes meaning “pine of the Indians” . South American Guarani Indians called it as nana meaning "excellent fruit" . Papua new guinea has released set of stamps with fragrance of Pineapple . The stamps when rubbed will give the smell of pineapple .

Guinness Record Holder Malayalam Actor Prem Nazir Deserves A Stamp Says A Reader

Recent visit to philatelists friendly “Trivandrum GPO” had a surprise waiting for me in the form of a newspaper clipping about the letters to the editor. In an article to  “Letters to the editor”of Malayalam Daily “Mathrubhumi”,A reader expressed his happiness that India Post has recognized many Indian heroines on stamps during INDIPEX-2011.At the same time the reader is unhappy that his favorite actor and Malayalam household name “Prem Nazir” is not yet featured on Indian Stamps in spite of many achievements to his credit. Prem Nazir was also honored with Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri.

Prem Nazir Nazir holds 4 Guinness records Guinness World Record for playing the lead role in nearly 610 films Guinness World Record for playing opposite the same heroine in 107 films ( with Sheela ) Guinness World Record for acting in lead roles in thirty nine films which were released in a single year (1979) Guinness World Record for acting opposite to 80 heroines.

In the recent years India Post has released many stamps honoring heroes and heroines of Indian Cinema with South Indian Actors and Actresses on it.None of the actors and actresses from the state of Kerala were featured on commemorative stamps.The contribution of Kerala Cinema has been immense to the nation. Kerala Cinema has many firsts to it’s credit. Recently Malayalam Feature film “Adaminte Makan Abu” was adjudged as the Best Feature Film at 58th National Film Awards for 2010.Hope the members of parliament from Kerala and the representatives of philatelic advisory committee from Kerala who have grown up watching Prem Nazir’s movies will vouch for a commemorative stamp of Prem Nazir. Ethiopian Stamps Of Grevy’s Zebra

Grevy’s Zebra is one of the three types Of Zebra with it’s Ears standing straight, arched neck,tensed muscles. When one watches a Grevy's zebra adult male presiding over it’s territory the majesty of this species can be understood. Grevy’s is on the brink of extinction and is on the endangered species list.

In 1882,the emperor Of Ethiopia Menelik II, felt that the zebras were so regal that he presented one as a gift to the President of France, Jules Grévy.Hence the name Grevy's zebra was coined.

Grevy's zebra was among the first of the zebra species to evolve after asses. Grevy’s Zebra are Taller, with narrow stripes,have a white belly, black dorsal stripe, large rounded ears and a brown muzzle. the Grevy's zebra can be easily distinguished from the more common plains zebra.
