About The Christmas Cribs |
In the year 1220 Saint Francis of Assisi visited Bethlehem . Saint Francis liked the way the Christmas was celebrated In Bethlehem , that he asked the Pope for permission to recreate it in his own Italian village . Saint Francis built a manger in a cave. In it he placed a stone image of the baby Jesus. He surrounded the manger with real animals. Then he called for a Mass (communion). The people found it so moving that they said it was possible to believe you were there at the actual birth place of Jesus . Since then wooden nativity scenes with Cribs were displayed in churches and homes across Europe . Today decorated cribs continue to be popular as a way of reminding us of what Christmas is really about - the birth of Jesus . Christmas cribs are much loved in Liechtenstein . Cribs decorate the local churches in Liechtenstein during the Christmas and the New Year, bringing the event of Christ’s birth closer to the hearts of the people. |
