The Marie Curie Stamp for the first time portrays fluorescence effect as the stamp has been printed using special fluorescent coloring .The radium on the Sweden stamp will glow when the stamp is exposed to UV Light

Marie Curie is well known for her research in radioactivity, a term she was coined by herself . Marie Curie’s discovery of Radium , as well as her successful isolation of the element radium , revolutionized modern medicine and formed the basis for radiation therapy .

The Nobel prize in chemistry that she received in 1911 was Marie Curie’s second Nobel Prize. Marie Curie received her 1st Nobel Prize in 1903 in physics with her husband, Pierre Curie, and Henri
Becquerel.

A Stamp with pictures of Pierre Curie, Marie Curie and Henry Becquerel  was released by Sweden in 1963 , and Marie Curie was depicted on  Swedish Post stamp of 1971 .

The ICMR was founded in 1911, the Government of India set up the Indian Research Fund Association (IRFA) with the sole objective of sponsoring and coordinating medical research in the country. After independence, several important changes were made in the organization and it's activities of the IRFA. ICMR was re-designated in 1949 as the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) with more functions added.

Slovakia Year Of Chemistry Stamps On Photosynthesis

Slovakia Along with Belgium was among the first countries to release stamps on International Year Of Chemistry. The Stamps carry the theme of important chemical reaction of life on earth “Photosynthesis”.

The Slovak Chemical Society at the Slovak Academy of Sciences issued stamps to mark the International Year of Chemistry 2011 . The chemical industry in Slovakia is mainly concentrated on petro chemistry, pharmaceuticals and in the manufacturing products of macromolecular compounds.

The Stamps focuses on natural chemical reaction essential for human life photosynthesis, which ensures that life on Earth exists. The two stamps focus on the  two important chemical compounds water and carbon dioxide which interact in photosynthesis.

The Color of stamps reflects two main stages of photosynthesis:light - in the form of sunlight and dark - in the form of blue symbolizing water. Sunlight and chlorophyll are the catalysts of photosynthesis, which results in oxygen and glucose, two molecules of life, which have a vital role in our lives.

The green picture shown on the first day cover (FDC),represents the chlorophyll with entering and emerging patterns of chemical compounds, which completes the picture of this unique course of photochemical reactions .

The FDC Postmark shows the C60 fullerene, one of several forms of allotropic carbon . Fullerenes have significant use in nanotechnology , which is one of the most attractive technology of chemistry today .  Spherical fullerenes are also called buckyballs , and they resemble the balls used in association football. Cylindrical ones are called carbon nanotubes or Bucky tubes .
